Once Upon the Balkans is a writing and visual arts initiative that brought together artists across borders and across different media. We invited creative people from all over the Balkans (and beyond!) to help us form a collaborative project where writing and visual arts work together to create a powerful and innovative narrative form. It all culminated in a multimedia storytelling event – an interactive evening of public reading and art competition at Polet on December 22nd.

The selected works were presented during the event, and we awarded the best collaborative pieces in two categories – film and photography (with their accompanying writing pieces) – with the help of the wonderful audience. Thank you all who participated in the project, came to the event and helped us make it all happen!

In the link below you can find works by writers and poets, filmmakers and photographers from all over the Balkans (and beyond), each author with their unique views and experiences. Fictional and anecdotal; historical, mythological and contemporary; tales of tragedy and comedy, love and loss, and so much more… uncover the beauty and complexities of a region they all share and love.
